Services offered by David Thomas, LMT
"My 'massage philosophy' has developed over ten years of massage practice and training. Below is a list of the primary modalities that I have studied, practiced, and developed over the years. My sessions tend to integrate a smooth blend of each of these techniques. Throughout a session, I am focusing on maintaining presence while practicing deep listening to the client's body as the primary guide of how to give the best fitted bodywork in that moment. While I have learned lots of modalities and techniques, the melding of them all coupled with the art of a well developed presence creates an outcome that often profoundly supports peoples holistic well being." - David
Deep Tissue Massage - This is the foundation of the massage therapy I practice. Deep Tissue utilizes hands, elbows/forearms, knuckles, wrists as tools to navigate through tissue. I listen intently to the body to feel how deep to go and back it up with occasional client check-ins to make sure the client is happy with the depth and pressure. Deep Tissue does not necessarily mean deep pressure. Deep Tissue massage increases circulation to promote tissue healing, decreases pain, and can increase range of motion. When done well, deep tissue massage feels incredible and is very cathartic.
Injury Treatment Protocols- I specialize in helping people recover from acute and chronic injuries. By integrating the above modalities with specific Injury Treatment Protocols, I am able to help people with injuries to many parts of the body. In particular, I am very skilled at working with shoulder and rotator cuff injuries, cervical and lumbar whiplash, sciatica, groin pulls, headaches, carpal tunnel, thoracic outlet, and more. Regions of the body I seem particularly adept at treating are hips, low back, shoulders, and neck. I have helped many people recover from car and bike accidents.

Swedish Massage - Ahhhh... yes, Swedish Massage really is such a great modality to help people simply relax. Long, smooth yummy Swedish strokes induce a calming relaxation and help increase circulation into muscles, tendons and joints. It's a great way to start the massage to get people warmed up and ready to more appropriately receive deeper work.

Neuromuscular Technique - Integrated with Deep Tissue, N.M.T. is the art and science of tuning into the body to discover the trigger points and tension point within the musculature. N.M.T. can be used to help release trigger points and chronic holding patterns to realign the body and significantly reduce pain. Often N.M.T. involves holding specific points for a certain amount of time until the trigger point within the muscle and/or fascia lets go. N.M.T. is very therapeutic.

Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy - By utilizing mostly very subtle and gentle touch and expansive levels of awareness, the clients body reveals rhythms of the central nervous system and the deeper fascial networks within the body. Profound change can happen and significant releases of physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual levels through this work. This work often brings people into deep states of relaxation that we all need so desperately in this challenging world. I humbly still consider myself a somewhat of a beginner of craniosacral therapy, but I am developed enough to really help people with this modality and plan on continuing my study. Note, craniosacral therapy can be intergrated within a massage session or can also be done as a "stand alone" therapy.
Miracles - Every once in a while, it does appear that a healing miracle happens. no guarantee on this... :)
About David M. Thomas, LMT

David M. Thomas, BS, LMT, CHWC received his massage license in 2006 and received his 1000+ hour training from the Brian Utting School of Massage in Seattle, WA. He has a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Maryland 1996. His latest course of study includes completing the Core Coach Training program from the esteemed Well Coaches School in Boston, MA. David also has 800+ hours of yoga teacher training completed from various yoga schools.
Let's get personal:
I graduated from Brian Utting School of Massage, Seattle, WA in August 2005. Having received over 1000 hours of massage training focusing heavily on deep tissue and injury treatment massage, I honestly feel I received one of the best massage trainings available in the U.S.
My current focuses lean toward integrating a therapeutic deep tissue approach with Hot Stones and biodynamic craniosacral. The integration of these approaches allows for very effective change and healing in the body.
When people ask, how long have you been doing massage, I tell them, “since I was in fourth grade.” As a former gymnast, I was first exposed to massage at the age of ten years old when I would do massage trades with my teammates after rigorous gymnastics training.
I had the good fortune of living and working for four years in community at Breitenbush Hot Springs. Being immersed in the old growth forests, hot springs, and being exposed to countless spiritual and philosophical teachings had a profound impact on my own awakening into living as a conscious being. During this time at Breitenbush, I received hundreds of really good massages which deeply effected my life and helped me prepare to become a highly skilled massage therapist. Massage and healthy healing touch has always been a part of my life and I feel so fortunate to have found a profession that is so rewarding and gratifying.
For the last 20 years or so, I have been walking a deep spiritual path, developing myself and learning the nature of my true Self. Over the years, I have come to appreciate my ability to communicate in a "spirituality grounded" and authentic way. I feel strongly that the spiritual life is very personal and is a process of Self discovery. Beyond my academic studies, I have spent countless hours studying/practicing (to name a few) yoga philosophy, shamanic mysticism, Buddhist psychology, and Lakota ceremony, all of which are influential factors in my massage and coaching practices.
I am married to an incredible woman, Krystina, who is also a massage therapist, Doula, birth educator, aspiring midwife, and mother of River Cedar Thomas and and Bodhi Sky Thomas. Most Certainly, I have grown to appreciate the dedication, selfless service and rewarding sacrifice of parenthood.
I have been very blessed to have had so many amazing life experiences, all of which add up to make me who I am today and support my ability to be a (very humbly stated) really good massage therapist and health coach.
